**** LCP Advisory for Winter Tennis Court Usage ****
During periods of the freeze/thaw cycle in winter months, the clay courts at the Club may have to
be temporarily closed due to unfavorable weather conditions. When the courts freeze and subsequently thaw, the ground
moisture collects on the surface, giving the impression they were watered during the night. Unless we experience a few nights
of above freezing temperatures coupled with dry days, the courts remain wet and unplayable. The lines become raised
as they are pushed up by the frozen ground. These lines do not recede on their own. This situation compromises the safety
of our members and their guests, necessitating the courts to be shut down until properly rolled and maintained.
If the courts are played on during unfavorable conditions, the marks left by footprints and other
activities are difficult to remove. The courts cannot be rolled and the lines cannot be reset unless the court surface is
relatively dry and firm. Failure to stay off the courts during these periods will result in extended court closures.
In summary, use caution when playing on the clay courts during periods of colder weather. Please
refrain from playing on the clay courts if they are wet, frozen or soft enough that footprints leave an indentation on the
court surface. These are your courts; help us take good care of them.
